Our Stages Have Been Saved

Greetings – The American Rescue Plan just signed into law includes funds to rescue and restart performing arts. As we all know, these things don’t just happen. You’ve seen the #SaveOurStages hashtag in the bottom left corner of our livestream screen for months now. That hashtag has been the rallying cry of the myriad entities that make up the live music industry. If you wrote a letter or made a call to get #SaveOurStages funds included in the rescue package, please know that yours was one of well over one million messages delivered. We are proud to say that our congressman, Paul Tonko, as well as our senators, Chuck Schumer and Kirstin Gillibrand, were all advocates for the arts bailout. Rep. Elise Stefanik was an advocate for the Save Our Stages act. However, Senator Schumer deserves an extra thank you. At the last minute, he removed a significant barrier in the bill so that qualifying venues can have a much better chance of securing meaningful assistance.

This money will preserve the diverse ecosystem of performing arts venues, and will therefore have a lasting impact on the music we will hear for many years to come.

Rick’s Picks: Kevin McKrell
Here in Saratoga, St. Patrick’s Day IS Kevin McKrell. In normal years, festivities completely take over the city. This week Kevin will grace our stage twice. Tonight he’ll play solo, and on Wednesday he’ll play with the full McKrells band. We’re so used to his friendly presence that we sometimes forget people around the globe sing McKrell’s proud, poignant and stirring Irish-American ballads.

Stony Creek Band
Stony Creek Band is responsible for a statistically significant portion of the good times ever had in the North Country. They are musically top-flight, overflowing with good spirits, and simply masterful on stage. They had a brush with fame in the ’80s, but mostly we love them for their decades of great shows at Stony Creek Inn, Caffe Lena, The Parting Glass and countless festivals throughout the area.

TEOA
They’re back! TEOA is a fast-rising folk-rock trio from Philadelphia that makes our hearts soar with their tight vocal harmonies and exciting, emotional songs. Travel restrictions forced the cancellation of their last planned stream from Lena’s, but as our country gets healthier with each passing week, we are thrilled to bring them back to our stage!
