Greetings – A year ago this week we were watching the headlines with growing concern, thinking we might even possibly have to close the venue for a week or two if this coronavirus was actually as bad as they were saying it was.
As we approach one year without welcoming you to Lena’s listening room, we have learned the very surprising news that our neighboring state, Massachusetts, is reopening small concert venues at 50% this week. We don’t expect that to happen imminently in our area, but music is returning.

In the meantime, please take a moment to explore this week’s free, beautifully produced, and artistically diverse programming. That photo up there shows Joel Moss at the camera controls. Joel’s room is behind the stage, where he can safely engineer the sound and camera movements. If you have any words of gratitude for this essential worker, feel free to respond to this message and I’ll pass them along. Our pandemic experience would have been very different without Joel on our team.

Rick’s Picks: Belle-Skinner and Gail Sparlin

Two strong female songwriters share the bill for this week’s local artist showcase. Belle-Skinner is a haunting lyricist, lilting soprano and rising talent who is making her mark nationally. Sparlin’s meaty, blues-influenced pop is radiantly confident and open-hearted. She accompanies herself on piano.
