Greetings – We’re coming to the end of our three week shutdown and getting ready to go lightly live next weekend as we host The Flurry Festival, Saratoga’s annual celebration of traditional dance and music. This event normally draws thousands of dancers to the City Center. (Remember those days?!) The determined organizers have put together Dancing In the Cloud, an online festival of nearly 200 sessions streamed from Caffe Lena and a site in NYC, as well as from the home studios of musicians around the globe. Click the graphic below to learn more.
I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the passing of a very important member of the Caffe family, Rosalie Clarke. Rosalie was a Board member, Treasurer, tireless volunteer, audience member and donor. She set a sterling example with her love of music, devotion to the venue, amazing work ethic and appetite for fun. Rosalie and Greg have an inscribed table at Caffe Lena and you can read their story in this little book called Storied Tables, written and edited by Kathleen Rehl and Charlie Pickett.

Melanie – Watch Party
You know her from the original Woodstock Festival, which she memorialized with her passionate anthem “Candles In the Rain.” And you know her playful classic “Brand New Key,” and the yearning “Look What They Done to My Song, Ma.” She’s been covered by Nina Simone, Ray Charles and Queen Latifah, but there’s nothing like an evening with Melanie herself. She’ll be hosting the chat tonight as we watch the set she played with her son, Beau, in July, 2019.
Tuesday, 8 PM “Live From Caffe Lena” Radio Show Listen on WEXT 97.7 & 106.1 FM
Featuring: THE SUITCASE JUNKET
Revisit a fun, raucous, moving night of music with this one-of-a-kind one-man-band. He built his drum kit from scratch, and it includes such improble items as a gas can, baby shoes and a box of bones. Along with his dumpster salvage guitar he rocks the packed house on a warm night in May, 2019.
Tuesday, Feb 9 / 7 PM Jazz Watch Party
CHUCK LAMB TRIO
& CHICO FREEMAN
Once was not enough for this extraordinary night with one of the most important saxophone players of our time, Chico Freeman. He’s joined by our house jazz band, the Chuck Lamb Trio. Renowned throughout Europe and the USA, Freeman has played with the greats of R&B, pop and especially Jazz. Chuck will be hosting the chat tonight.
Thursday, Feb 11 / 3 PM & 8 PM
