Greetings – Through his music shops and volunteerism, Matt McCabe did everything he could to serve his community–one small act of kindness at a time. Rick Bolton (Rick’s Picks) is coordinating a musical tribute to Matt that will stream live through Lena’s YouTube and Facebook channels on the evening of February 20, which Mayor Kelly has declared “Matt McCabe Day” in Saratoga. If you would like to contribute a song or some words, please reply to this email.

Because of the prevalence of Covid in the Capital Region at this time, the Caffe will be going into “Safe Mode” from January 19 until February 12. As we did for a few weeks back in March, many of our shows will be rebroadcasts from our private archive of concerts recorded during “the before times.” We’ll stream select shows as Watch Parties, with the musicians guest hosting the chat. Not only can we enjoy some of the wonderful artists we’ve missed so much over the last ten months, but we’ll be ensuring the safety of Joe, Joel, Reese and Carolyn, who have worked on site keeping the music flowing throughout the pandemic. We look forward to staying connected and supporting the artists while we watch together.

“Live From Caffe Lena” Radio Show
Listen on WEXT 97.7 & 106.1 FM
Featuring: MIKAELA DAVIS

Mikaela drove in from western NY with her guitarist to play our stage for the first time on January 9. Her instrument is a concert harp, which she uses to create rich folk-pop melodies that are thoroughly contemporary. Great lyrics, cool voice. We loved the show and we share it with you tonight on the radio!

Food Justice in our Nation
& Community

SPONSORED BY NATIONAL GRID
Across the nation, food pantries are stretched to the limit to meet the nutritional needs of families that never thought they’d need help putting dinner on the table. The pandemic has brought hunger to more households, but this problem is not new. Panelists will set the current crisis against the backdrop of longstanding, systemic inequalities that leave too many Americans malnourished. Our discussion will be led by Amy Klein of Capital Roots, Dr. Ferryl Bertmann of the University of Vermont, Dr. Renee Rodriguez-Goodemote of Saratoga Community Health Center, and Dr. Nurcan Helicke of Skidmore College. Online viewers are encouraged to present questions, challenges and ideas during the discussion.

Stephane Wrembel Band
Album Release Concert

The Django Experiment VI
On the occassion of the 111th anniversary of the birth of Django Reinhardt, we are tremendously honored to host Stephane Wrembel, one of the world masters of the Django Reinhardt style. Wrembel’s music expands on the tradition with elements of jazz, blues, classical, swing, flamenco and rock. It’s stunning amalgam called “a revelation” by Rolling Stone’s David Fricke. This worldwide album release concert will feature Wrembel’s 6-piece band streaming live from Lena’s stage.

Nellie McKay
Watch Party co-hosted by Nellie
With a smoldering voice, wry sense of humor, and sharply tuned social conscience, Nellie took her place on the Caffe stage back in Feb, 2019. Her witty, stylish show expands on the Great American Songbook with satirical observations of the world that we live in. In addition to touring solo and with her band, McKay is an acclaimed Broadway actress and recording artist.Opera Saratoga postponed to spring.
