Friends of Caffe Lena
"The Friends of Caffè Lena" is an all-volunteer organization formed in 2005 to support the operation of our 47-year-old folk club. Our Friends enjoy networking together to keep Caffè Lena running strong and smooth.
The Friends handle a wide variety of tasks depending on their available time and particular skills. From stuffing mailings to staffing shows, to maintaining the property and raising money, there is no limit to the scope of valuable assistance our Friends provide. We encourage creativity, imagination, dreaming big!
Becoming a Friend is very simple. First, read below to find out what sort of help we currently are seeking. If your idea isn't in the list, let us know what it is. Next, introduce yourself! Send us an email using the form below. We'd like to know what sorts of jobs you like to do and when you have free time. Once we hear from you we'll work together to pick an appropriate project and get you started.

The Calendar
Chris McGill heads up the group that mails out our 2,500 quarterly calendars. This project takes place in February, May, August, and December. And it involves pizza, cookies, and plenty of chat.
Caffè Lena History Project
Caffè Lena's historical exhibit showcases our remarkable 47 year history. Sarah would appreciate having a Friend maintain and repair the exhibit every couple of weeks (simple stuff: resticking pieces to the walls, regluing peeled corners). It would take about a ˝ hour every two or three weeks.
And, as always, we are seeking any Caffè Lena historical memorabilia! If you have anything to donate (actual items, or just your story) to this exhibit or please e-mail jocelyn caffelenahistory.org.
Fundraising Ideas
Our fundraising team pursues grants, organizes special events, and is always open to new and effective ideas. If you have, or want to gain, experience in fundraising, we'd love to meet you.
Create a List of Performers: 1985 to Present
When Lena Spencer celebrated the 25th anniversary of her café in 1985, she compiled a complete list of the performers she had hired since opening in 1960. We'd like to update it to reflect all who have played between '85 and '07. This will involve going through the caffe files and entering the names into a database. This project might require four to six hours of work.
Office Help
Sarah could use a volunteer to get the mail from the post office twice a week, do some data entry, and mail out thank-you notes to new members. This would require a steadfast person with accurate (if not fast) typing skills who is comfortable learning to use our database.
Create a Membership Display
The Caffè will be tabling at various events this year with the hope of increasing membership and spreading the word about our year 'round programming. We need an attractive, attention-getting display that explains what Caffè Lena has to offer and "Why you should care!" This is a great opportunity to put your artistic skills to work.
Help Out at Our Shows
There are so many things to do to keep a show running smoothly. At every concert we need a greeter, a couple table servers, a couple people in the kitchen, and someone to wash dishes. Over the course of the year, that adds up to a lot volunteer hours! Being part of the show staff is the best way to get to know Caffè Lena better, enjoy the music, and make some new friends. Everyone aged 13 and up is welcome to give it a try. Younger volunteers must be accompanied by an adult partner.
