Featuring Meridian Green and The Fare-the-Wells |
| bobgibsonlegacy.com |
Folk afficianados will remember Bob Gibson as one of the first super stars of the folk music renaissance of the '50s and '60s. He wrote and revitalized an amazing collectio n of songs, many of which have become folk standards. With his ringing tenor and innovative technique, Bob brought folk music into venues that had never before experienced the tradition of the traveling troubadour.
The Bob Gibson Legacy concerts feature Bob's eldest daughter, Meridian Green, along with veteran entertainers Rick Grumbecker and John Heller performing as The Fare-Thee-Wells. They take the audience on a musical journey through the heart of American folk music. From Greenwich Village's Washington Square to Chicago's Gate of Horn, from California's Mendocino Coast to Kerrville, Texas, through songs and stories, medleys and sing-alongs, playing banjo, 12-string, 6-string and Nashville high-strung guitars, they bring our shared musical history home.

“Unafraid to mix philosophy, spirituality, love and artistry with a folk-rock back beat is what makes this duo a positive force on all things human.”
—Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange
The much-traveled married duo of Pete and Maura Kennedy have spun their enduring romance, radiant warmth, musical influences and philosophical beliefs into nine albums of winsome songs blending acoustic-based folk, rock, country, pop and secular gospel in a delightful sound that's all their own.
Maura's lead vocals range from comforting to yearning, from girlish to womanly, from exuberant to delicate, often bolstered by Pete's sweet harmonies. Multi-instrumentalist Pete provides a vibrant tapestry of chiming, jangling and twanging guitars, mandolin, and electric sitar interwoven with Maura's sturdy acoustic rhythm guitar, harmonica and glockenspiel.
Their new release, Better Dreams, their first CD of all-original material in seven years, was inspired by a pair of seminars they conducted on "using dreams to unlock your creativity" (see tomorrow's workshop offering).

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with this charming husband-and-wife duo from Boston. Matt & Shannon Heaton's original Celtic music is built on strong traditional bones, fleshed out with a passion for the modern world around them.
They learned their chops in Irish music sessions in Chicago and on regular trips to Ireland, where they studied with some of Clare's finest. But once you scratch the traditional music pedigree you find a unique personality and vibe.
Shannon contributes a keen love of language and folk melody accrued through a childhood spent traveling to Navajo Reservations and living in Nigeria and Thailand.
Matt is a life long music student who has played classical guitar in Italy, rock in Chicago, and tango in Denver. Together they founded the critically acclaimed Irish band Siucra and have performed with traditional luminaries Aoife Clancy, Robbie O'Connell, and Scottish gem Emily Smith. They have released three CDs and one songbook.

Tony Furtado crosses the line between Jam-based folk-rock, bluegrass, and classic rock. He's a slide guitarist, banjo wizard, and songwriter with an emotionally riveting voice.
Tony took up the banjo at age twelve. Seven years later he entered himself in the banjo competition at the venerable Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas and won the Grand National Championship.
Now a seasoned road warrior playing an average of 300 shows a year, Furtado's passion is to play live and bring his music out there to the people—a propensity that has made him a favorite among young bluegrass and jam fans. He offers a mix of orginal tunes, unique arrangements of traditional material, and cover songs by the likes of Tom Petty and The Beatles.

“He mixes the powerful and the gentle and demonstrates his mastery of both…One of the major talents of our time…”
—Boston Globe
Canadian singer/songwriter Garnet Rogers is a man with a powerful physical presence - close to six and a half feet tall - with a voice to match. He sings in cinematic detail about people who are not obvious heroes and of the small victories of the everyday, carrying his audience from song to song with memorable stories and quips. With his "smooth, dark baritone" (Washington Post), his incredible range, and thoughtful, dramatic phrasing, Garnet is a favorite of folk fans.
He has been featured on numerous television and radio programs, including NPR's All Things Considered.
Garnet Rogers asks audience members to bring donations of non-perishable food and useful personal care items such as shampoo and toothpaste. Caffè Lena will bring the donated items to Saratoga EOC's food pantry. Thanks for supporting our local food bank.

“Amy Speace is a remarkable artist, writer, singer and performer. Her songwriting is up there with some of the greatest songwriters of the era. She reveals in poetry and song the naked truth. I am a total fan.”
—Judy Collins
Slated for its stateside release in Mar, Amy Speace's second album, The Killer In Me, has already hit #5 in the European Americana Charts and has been selected as a finalist in the international Independent Music Awards.
It would seem that WFUV, the premiere American folk radio station, was right on track when they named Amy among their "Top 16 To Watch" in 2008. Her arresting voice combines the best of Lucinda Williams with Roseanne Cash on a collection of original, dark, soulful alt-country gems steeped in 21st century hipness.
This is a don't-miss artist!

Metroland Magazine's Best Acoustic Band, 2008
Time Union Faves of 2008
After several years of laboring in obscurity (which was fine by them!), Annie & the Hedonists are finally getting the notice they richly deserve. This fun quartet's repertoire of acoustic folk, blues, jazz standards, bluegrass, gospel, labor ballads and early jazz sparkles with an “uncommon joy-de-vivre” (Don Wilcock).
The torchy, jazzy, spine-tingling vocals of Annie Rosen take center stage, with three and four part harmonies provided by husband Jonny Rosen (guitar), Steve Fry (mandolin, guitar & trumpet), and Betsy Fry (electric bass). Reed player extraordinaire Peter Davis will join the band on clarinet.

The four lovely sisters of GiveWay hail from Scotland and have been playing for the love of it since they were in the single digits, and professionally since 1998. GiveWay features Fi (fiddler, vocalist, guitarist and whistle player), Kirsty (accordionist and lead singer), Amy (drummer and vocalist), and Mairi (pianist and singer).
Always leaning toward bold melodies and vocal harmonies, the sisters put a contemporary spin on traditional Irish and Scottish tunes, foot-tapping and jazzy folk songs, rock-inspired jigs, and songs written by acclaimed Scottish artists Phil Cunningham and John McCusker.
They've won awards at the acclaimed Scottish music festival Celtic Connections, in the BBC Radio's "2 Young Folk" awards, and have performed on numerous radio and television shows. They've also supported top musical acts including Karen Matheson, Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, and performed alongside Cherish the Ladies, Natalie MacMaster, Kate Rusby and Fiddler's Bid.
They began touring the US a couple years ago and have been invited back at every stop. This will be their first appearance in the Capital District.
