Inspired by the songwriting of Gram Parsons, Schenectady native Blake Christiana has developed a new trio featuring mandolin, guitar, rhythm and vocal harmonies. In addition to their Monday night residency at Kenny's Castaways in Greenwich Village, Yarn is touring the Northeast and has released a new record.
This is the folk version of the roots rock sound made popular by Blake and bandmate Trevor MacArthur through their ever-popular band Blake & The Family Dog. |

This young, envigorating New York City trio brings back to life old timey American music, vaudevillian ragtime blues, early swing, jugband and old time country with all the eccentricity and loose brilliance that has given the genre it's appeal down through the decades.
Performing on washboard, harmonica, kazoo, guitar, and upright bass, the WIYOS transport listeners back to a time before TV and mass-media were the main sources of entertainment. Great fun for all ages! |

For 25 years this storytelling team has swept audiences along on an exhilarating journey of the imagination that spans the globe and the ages. Vermont humorist Tom Weakley is known for his dead pan delivery as well as his poignant short stories about his neighbors.
Audiences across the country have enjoyed his irreverent tinkering with American tall tales and his spirited (occasionally true) memories of growing up during the Great Depression.
Iowa-born Jeannine began to fully appreciate the international roots of our American culture when she taught English to immigrants in New York City. She enjoys introducing new listeners to stories from all the world's people. |

Postponed due to freezing rain |
We're thrilled to present for the first time this Boston band featuring Gorgeous Sarah Borges, the 2006 winner of a Boston Music Award for Best Vocalist. A blazing originalist, Sarah is the woman who claims "Hank Williams songs and punk rock songs are really the same thing." Sounds like a stretch at first, but listen to her draw from the same well as Hank and Waylon, and swagger like Chrissy Hynde and Neko Case, and you'll begin to understand.
This is Fender Telecaster-style rock 'n roll fronted by an irrepressible young dynamo, so prepare for a ride that will thrill both the ears and the heart. |

Long known as the mastermind behind the legendary British blues rock band Savoy Brown, Kim Simmonds is acknowledged as one of England's finest bluesmen. Many of his recordings throughout the '60s and '70s placed in Billboard's top 100 making his group one of the few blues bands to penetrate the pop charts.
Forty years later Simmonds continues to grow artistically. On his new CD Struck By Lightning, he regales with a glorious combination of acoustic blues, jazz and folk. This will be his first performance at Caffè Lena. |

MOLLY SWEENEY by Brian Friel |
| $10 |
|
Directed by John Trainor |
This hauntingly beautiful story of courage by Ireland's foremost living playwright unfolds through interweaving monologues. Meet Molly (Diedre Bollinger), a woman blind since early infancy; Frank (Douglas MacDonald), her husband urging surgery to correct the 'handicap'; and Mr. Rice (Kevin Wixsom), her doctor seeking to recover a failed career--if the operations succeed!
Through the lens of memory, the trio discusses life before and after the procedures. Each character only communicates directly with the audience, inviting participation in a fundamental journey: examining the difference between seeing and understanding, consequences of hope and action. Truth is in the eye of the beholder. Two acts with intermission. On the Caffe's main stage. |

Three artists who are familiar faces on New York City's burgeoning folk scene, plus one upstater from Ithaca, join together for a song-swap that very well may lead you to discover a favorite new songwriter.
The Gray Sky Girls sing in harmonies that will take you straight back to the folk heyday of the early '60s. Milton's songs chronicle modern life through the timeless lens of a folk troubadour. Katie Sawicki is an indie songwriter who makes music in the tradition of Lucinda Williams and Ryan Adams. Ithaca's Crow Greenspun is a true eclectic who draws from folk, country, blues, soul, rock, and rap to a create a coherent sound all his own. |

The "Clown Princess" returns to her home stage for a night inventive, outrageous comic songs. Her performances are characterized by impeccable timing and manic energy (like Christine Lavin on ten cups of espresso!).
Camille's songs have achieved national recognition, including Dr. Demento's top award for her classic side-splitter "Viagra in the Waters." Since retiring from seven years of touring with the Four Bitchin' Babes Camille has appeared less frequently in the region, so don't miss this precious chance to get your fix of her zany, brilliant humor! |

As a protege of the late Dave Van Ronk, Danny Kalb established himself on New York's seminal folk and blues scene in the '60s. In 1965 he founded The Blues Project. Even today, this important group flourishes with numerous album reissues and compilations on MCA, Polygram, and Rhino.
After taking a break from music for several years, Danny Kalb's story is once again unfolding as he brings his luminous guitar talents to a new generation. Kalb is an important player who keeps alive the lore and sounds of the Folk Revival for those who missed it, or miss it.
