Since 1987 the Skidmore Jazz Institute has served as a summer training program for intermediate and advanced young musicians. With a faculty comprised of world-class performers and gifted instructors from around the country, the Institute is regarded as one of the nation’s premiere jazz training programs. For the first time, the student combos will provide a free evening concert at Caffe Lena so the community can enjoy their phenomenal talent.
Previous students who have successfully pursued jazz careers include Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, Richie Barshay, Jonathan Batiste, Ryan Cohan, Sullivan Fortner, Brandon Lee, Christian Scott, Kendrick Scott, Walter Smith, Burniss Earl Travis, and Myron Walden among others.
